About this piece This was a 6 color reduction linoleum print. I started with the lightest color and carved out what I wanted to stay that color and would continue printing until I got to black. I wanted a feel of celebration with this Moonlight Festival Event.
About this piece "Stream on Consciousness" For this project I created a dry point etching. I used a picture of my cousin, Elizabeth, as my reference, and I drew out the goldfish swimming around her head. There is a nice balance between each of the gold fish and her body. Also the movement in the line work of the fish's tails and her hair draws the viewer's eye. In some areas where there is more value, it shows more contrast and gives the subject more form. The fish swimming around her head are resembling her thoughts and the idea of constantly having something on her mind. But at the same time they resemble a sense of calmness and it is also shown in her facial expression. For my creative, I decided to use watercolor to add more information to the piece. I wanted the watercolor to blend well with the etching rather than just filling in the areas with color. This was definitely my favorite project so far, and I'm extremely proud of the outcome with this piece.
About this piece "Imagine" For this project, I decided to use this picture of my brother with an alligator on his head. I wanted to show depth by layering the image twice on itself. Line work can look flat sometimes, therefore with contrast and form it shows more depth to the image. Movement is also shown in the background with the marveled pattern traveling downwards to the face. His profile also grounds the overall composition and creates an even balance. The message behind this piece was to express adventure and nature. My brother was in Sri Lanka and it reminded me to stay adventurous and to not be so closed off to the rest of the world. I liked the result of this piece, but something I would change to improve it, would be to have more of his body showing or to have a cleaner/readable print of my brother.
